Mass of Christian Burial for Peter Goetz, 88, of Rugby, formerly of Fillmore, was held at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. Interment was in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Fillmore. He died Aug. 9, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot. The Anderson Funeral Home of Rugby was in charge of arrangements. Peter Goetz was born Nov. 25, 1915 on the farm of his parents nine miles southwest of Rugby to Ferdinand "Fred" and Mary Migler Goetz. He was reared on the home farm and on the Krim and Migler family farms north of Balta. In 1933, his parents purchased a farm south and east of Silva. He received his education in a country school in Jefferson Township of Pierce County and helped on the farm and worked for relatives until his marriage to Mary Voeller Oct. 21, 1935 at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Fulda. They lived on the Oksendal farm south west of Rugby and later moved to a farm southeast of Silva. In 1941 the family moved to a farm a few miles east of Silva where they farmed and raised milk cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and geese. In 1952 they retired from farming, moved into Fillmore and purchased the Fillmore Bar, which they operated until retiring in 1996. He also hauled gravel in the 1960's and 1970's. Following retirement, the couple moved to the East Side Village in Rugby. She died Feb. 3, 2002. He moved to the Harold S. Haaland Home in Rugby in January of 2004. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorraine Thompson of Rugby and Iris and Derold Simonson of Esmond; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn "Katie" Heinzer of Snohomish, Wash.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Dorothy Goetz and Anton "Tony" and Ann Goetz, all of Rugby. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a granddaughter; a son-in-law, Ardell Thompson; three sisters; and four brothers.
