Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Peter J. Silbernagel was born December 29, 1920 on a farm near Strasburg, ND, the son of John and Angela (Miller) Silbernagel. He attended country school in Krassna and served in the Conservation Corp Camp. Pete served in the US Army during World War II. He married Rose Ternes at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Krassna, ND on May 10, 1943. In 1946, they bought a farm northwest of Linton. In 1951 they moved into Linton and owned and operated Hillside Grocery until 1954, and continued farming until very recently. A retirement farm auction was planned for April 8. In the early morning of the day of that event, Pete died suddenly at his home. He believed in giving back to the community and was active in many organizations during the years the lived in Linton. Pete served on the Linton City Council and had served as mayor. Peter also served on Emmons County Social Service Board and was a charter member of the Emmons County Farm Bureau and Emmons County Historical Society. Pete was a member of the Linton American Legion, serving as commander, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Linton Fire Department, Emmons County Wildlife Club, Boy Scout Leader, Knights of Columbus including the 40 & 8 Chapter. Pete was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and the Republican Party. He enjoyed farming, loved the land and spending time with family and friends. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife: Rose of Linton, ND; nine sons and four daughters-in-law: Peter and Cathy of Casselton, ND, Paul and Barb of Bismarck, ND, Urban of Mandan, ND, Dennis of Billings, MT, Gilbert of Las Vegas, NV, Dave and Janette of Boise, ID, Lyle of Austin, TX, Martin and Carol of Council Bluffs, IA and Tom of Neillsville, WI, six daughters and five sons-in-law: Angeline and Jack Bushy of Daytona, FL, Donna and Frank Bosch of Kalispell, MT, Alice and Vic Carufel of Bismarck, ND, Carol and Robert Fink of Roseville, CA, Adella and Bruce Poppke of Evanston, WY and Mary Banek of El Paso, TX, 28 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Adam and Angeline Silbernagel of Strasburg, ND and four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Cecelia and John Fischer of Anaconda, MN, Rosemary Schwahn of Strasburg, ND, Alice and Aloyse Burgad of Bismarck, ND, and Phyllis Malsom of Billings, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Tillie Mack, six brothers, Joseph, John, Max, Felix, Albert and Leopoldina, and one daughter-in-law, Laura Silbernagel.
