Read More	[obit] Once more the death messenger has called and we have had to give up another of our old and respected citizens. This time the call came to Peter Jacob Peters. For sometime past Mr. Peters had not been well, but was able to be about and on the street most every day, he being by nature of a lively disposition, was not given to complaining or to make his ailments known. For more than a week, however, he had been confined to his room and although not suffering, his family and friends saw that he was steadly growing weaker, and the clouds and shadows of death began to settle over the home and on Saturday evening, Sept 25th he quietly passed away. The deceased was born in Holstein, Germany, Feb 12, 1831, being 66 years, 7 months and 13 days old. The land of his birth was his home until 1858, when he came to America and settled in the state of Illinois. Feb 12, 1880, on his fiftieth birthday, he came to Audubon Co, IA where he lived util called to that bourn from whence no traveler has yet returned. In 1860 Peter Peters and Anna Schwennecker were joined in the bonds of matrimony. To this union was born 10 children: 7 sons & 3 daughters. Three sons have preceded him to the spirit land. The deceased was a soldier in 2 wars. He was first drafted into service in his native land at the age of 19, where he gave 5 years of his early manhood to the hardships of warfare. And when he had formed a home in America and the call of his country broke on his ears he again offered his services to defend the old flag and from 1861 to 1865 gave his services to his country. Mr. Peters was a careful business man, an obliging neighbor and a good citizen. The esteem by wich he was held in the hearts of his neighbors and friends was manifest by the unusually large numbers who came to pay their last debt of respect. The funeral services were held at the family residence, in Exira, on Monday at 11 a.m., the Congregational Pastor Rev. H. L. Wissler having charge. The pall bearers were members of the O.P. Morton Post, Grand Army of Republic, at Exira, IA. The remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground at the Schwennecker Cemetery in Audubon twp. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this connection Mrs. Peters and the members of her family desire to express their gratitude to those kind friends who so willingly assisted during the sickness and burial of their beloved father and husband.
