FUNERAL WILL BE AT CLARE THURSDAY MORNING As a Lad of Eight Years, This Pioneer Came to This Vicinity With His Parents and Grew to a Manhood Respected and Loved By a Great Many. This morning about 4:30, the soul of Peter Donahoe was freed from intense pain which he had been suffering for the past year-and from confinement to his bed for fourteen weeks just passed. Death occurred at the Fort Dodge home of the deceased at 1320 First avenue north, and arrangements have been made for the funeral procession to start from there, at 8:00 a. m. Thursday, for a cross country trip to Clare where funeral services will be held in the Clare Catholic church. Interment will follow in the family burying ground at Clare. Mr. Donahoe, about sixty-two years of age at the time of his death, has been a sufferer with spinal trouble of unusual nature for some time. About a year ago his condition became serious and painful and he was treated all to no avail, for many months, and finally gained slight relief by an operation of a very delicate nature, performed by specialists in Chicago. This brief relief was followed by even sharper distress and after his return to Fort Dodge, Mr. Donahoe was compelled to remain constantly in bed and his condition grew steadily more precarious. Because of his great suffering, death came as a relief to his pain-racked body but this tempers only slightly the great loss of the family and many friends. Here In 1858. Peter Donahoe first came to Fort Dodge in the early year, 1858 when his parents moved from his birthplace, Hazelton, Pennsylvania, to take up a homestead in Pocahontas county, Lizard township. Mr. Donahoe was born in Hazelton, November 30, 1848. The boy grew to manhood amid Iowa pioneer life and assumed much of the hardy nature of the early settler which characterizes a generation swiftly passing away and representative of a strong type of manhood and womanhood. November 18, 1878, he was married to Miss Anna Carey who came to him from his birthplace, to become his wife. They resided on the old homestead for many years, constantly cultivating the land-which was claimed for farm land by Mr. Donahoe's father, until a year ago March 1, when they moved to Fort Dodge to spend the remaining days of their lives. The Sorrowing Survivors. There are eight children surviving all of whom live in this immediate vicinity and are well known and respected members of the community. They are Joseph, James M., Thomas and Mary who is Mrs. Will Hood, all of Clare, and Richard, Alice, Lilly, and Anna of Fort Dodge, who reside with the bereaved mother. Thomas and Charles Donahoe of Clare are brothers and Mrs. P. J. Crilly of Clare and Mrs. Matthew McCreary of Fort. Dodge are sisters. The Funeral. No service will he held in Fort Dodge before the body is taken to Clare, but at that place, Rev. Father M. Darcy will be assisted in elaborate service by Father Welch of Corpus Christi church and Rev. Father Shannon of Sacred Heart church in this city. Transcribed by Leta Koll
