He had lived with her since the death of his wife, 18 Feb 1897. An obituary in Franklin eulogized, "Those who knew Mr. Luyster knew him as a fine gentleman, one who had many qualities to command respect." The Franklin Democrat, -Fri, 2 Jul 1897, pg 2, col 2 Peter M. Luyster, brother of H. H. Luyster and Mrs. Elizabeth Ransdell, of this city, and of Mrs. Mary List of Hopewell, died last week at his home in Emporia, Kansas. He was formerly a resident of the Hopewell neighborhood, from which place he moved nearly forty years ago. The Franklin Republican, Franklin IN -Fri, 2 Jul 1897, pg 7 Formerly of This County — Peter Luyster, who went from this county to Kansas in 1859, died last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Carnine, in Emporia, Kas. He had lived with Mr. and Mrs. Carnine since the death of his wife about two months ago. His remains were taken for burial to Geneva [KS], where he lived before his wife’s death. The deceased was born in Kentucky seventy-three years ago but came to Johnson county with his parents at a very early age and lived here until his removal to Kansas. He married Miss Rachel List of the Hopewell neighborhood. To them were born four children, one son and two daughters living in California and one daughter in Kansas. Those who knew Mr. Luyster knew him as a fine gentleman, one who had many qualities to command respect. He was a brother of Capt. Luyster and of Mrs. Elizabeth Ransdell of this city.
