Tilghman Claimed by Death Well-Known Citizen Expires Thursday Morning Was Long Active in Business Circles Pioneer Photographer Came to Crisfield Half Century Ago in Jewelry Business Many Years a Leader in Lodge Circles Was Magistrate Peter M. Tilghman, one of Crisfield's oldest and meet highly respected citizens, died at his home on Main Street of the infirmities of old age, at 8 o'clock Thursday morning. Although 79 years of age, the deceased had led a very active life until four years ago when he had the misfortune to fall and break his hip, and has been confined to his home practically ever since. He was born in Wicomico county and moved to Crisfield about fifty years ago, being one of Crisfield's pioneer citizens and businessmen. He conducted a jewelry store on Central Main Street for 25 yours and at the same time a photo-studio just across the street. After retiring from the mercantile business, he continued to conduct his photograph studio until a few years ago, when he retired from active business. Mr. Tilghman was Justice of the Peace and Police Justice for the city of Crisfield for eight years and was considered a leader in the business and social life of this city and was loved and respected by all who knew him. A fine christian gentleman, with a kind and cheerful disposition, his loss will be keenly felt by the entire community. Mr. Tilghman was twice married. His first wife being Miss Martha Causey of Wicomico county, and the second was Miss Annie Lewis, of Crisfield. He is survived by one son, Mr. Merrill H. Tilghman, of Wilmington, Del., by his first wife and one son, Mr. Simmons P. Tilghman, of Crisfield; and two daughters, Mrs. Frank P. Long, of Hampton, Va., and Miss Ruth W. Tilghman, of this city. Also one sister, Mrs. Martha Sirman of Salisbury. The deceased was a member of Annemessex Lodge Knights of Pythias, Junior Order United American Mechanics and Chesapeake Lodge A. F. & A . M. The Masonic Order will have charge of the funeral services. Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon on, at 2.30 p.m., conducted by Rev. J. J. Bunting, assisted by Rev. C. M.
