Read More	Boone News, 27 Oct 1904 Peter McGlynn, one of the old residents and most respected citizens of the county, died at his residence, 1313 Marshall Street, on Friday evening, October 14, at 10:25 o'clock at the age of eighty years. Death was caused from old age together with bowel trouble and the deceased had been in failing health for the past year. Since early in September he has not left the house, the last time he appeared on our streets being Labor Day. Peter McGlynn was born in the county Roscommon, Ireland, August 15, 1824. When thirteen years of age he went to England and Scotland where he remained until he was twenty three years of age. He was called home at that time by the illness of his mother who died shortly after his return to his native land. After her death he returned to England, taking with him his little brother, Edward, who for years was a resident of this county and whose family some of whom still reside here. Remaining there but a short time they took passage on an ocean steamer and landed at Castle Garden, New York city, December 14, 1848. All through his life he looked after the welfare of the brother whose keeping was placed in his charge at an early age and this bond of brotherly affection lasted until death. The deceased resided in New York City for about two years and in that city was united in marriage to Miss Julia Daily on April 22, 1851. Shortly afterwards they immigrated to La Salle county, Illinois, and lived for several years in the city of La Salle. In 1859 the family removed to Clinton county, Iowa, where the husband and father had provided a home for them. This was their home until the fall of 1865 when Mr. McGlynn came to Boone County and bought the old homestead in Jackson Township. The following May, in 1866, he removed the family to the new home on the almost unbroken prairie. His brother Edward purchased a farm adjoining and there the two families grew to young manhood and womanhood. About ten years ago Mr. McGlynn advancing in years, retired from the farm and came to Boone where he, his wife and daughter have since made their home. To Mr. and Mrs. McGlynn were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, three dying in infancy. The children are: Mrs. Mary Mott, wife of Fred Mott of this city; Edward, who died in infancy; Julia, who resides at home; John, residing in Hamilton county near Stanhope; Thomas, who died in infancy; Peter of Jackson township; Margaret, wife of J.A. Blunk of Lincoln, Nebraska, and William, who died in infancy. Beside the surviving children his aged wife is left to mourn his death. His brother, Edward, died several years ago at the family residence in Jackson Township. Fifteen grandchildren also survive. All of the immediate family were at his bedside when the end came. The deceased was the type of the sturdy immigrant who came to this country under adverse circumstances and by dint of hard and honest labor acquired a competence. When he came to Boone county the Northwestern railroad was built but to this point and city of Boone was then but a struggling frontier village known to the world as Montana. With an ox team he broke the virgin prairie and like many another pioneer suffered the privations of a new country. During his long residence in this county he was known to the greater number of its citizens. His dealings with his fellow man were always marked by honesty and fair dealing. Never in his whole career did he have a law suit or even brought suit against any man. His word was as good as his bond and his friends were those who formed his acquaintanceship, regardless of nationality, creed or condition. His home was one of hospitality and it can truly be said that no hungry person was ever turned away from his door or shelter beneath his roof refused to anyone. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Church of the Sacred Heart. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
