Death came early Friday morning, despite every effort of skill to save his life. Several days before his death, attending physicians found it necessary to amputate the injured arm at the shoulder, hoping to stop the spread of the infection, and for a time he showed a very slight improvement. His condition however, gradually became more serious, until death ended his suffering. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Presbyterian church of this city, the services being in charge of Rev. Joseph Andrews. The services were on of the largest attended, the many friends of the deceased gathering to pay their last respects. Mr. Nelson was injured July 30, when his hand and forearm were drawn into the chain drive of a combine. Two fingers were torn from the hand, and the entire arm, to the elbow terribly lacerated. The deceased was born December 11, 1880, at Albert Lea, Minn., and was 51 years of age at the time of his death. At the age of three, he came to South Dakota, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Nelson, who were early pioneers, locating in Ohio township, fifteen miles south of Miller. Since 1883, Mr. Nelson had spent all his life in this vicinity, where he was well-known and highly respected. Through hard work and determination, he acquired on of the finest farms in the county and his many admirable qualities won him lasting friendships. He was a devote father to his two daughters, who were left motherless when Mrs. Nelson passed away twelve years ago. Mr. Nelson was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church, and with his passing, the community has lost one of its most prominent residents. Surviving his death are his two daughters, Mrs. Anna Johnson and Mrs. Ethel Cotton, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Nelson, and three brothers, Albert and David Nelson of Miller and Louis Nelson of Pueblo, Colo. The Miller Press, Miller, Hand, South Dakota Thursday, August 18, 1932, p1 c1 ~~~~~~~~
