Description	:	Peter Nicholas Lantz was born in September 1839 in the Big Spring Township of Seneca County, Ohio to Peter and Mary Long Lantz. The youngest of five children, Peter’s early life was farming with his family. A country in turmoil brought Peter to war in 1861. He served with the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company D, with a rank of private. Records of the 49th Infantry show that Peter must have fought in numerous engagements in the western campaign. Read More	Peter Nicholas Lantz was born in September 1839 in the Big Spring Township of Seneca County, Ohio to Peter and Mary Long Lantz. The youngest of five children, Peter’s early life was farming with his family. A country in turmoil brought Peter to war in 1861. He served with the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company D, with a rank of private. Records of the 49th Infantry show that Peter must have fought in numerous engagements in the western campaign. Shilo, Battle of Chickamauga, Siege of Chattanooga, Siege of Atlanta and numerous smaller engagements in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana are among those that this unit participated in. He mustered out in 1864. Returning from the war he again took to farming with his father and brother. By 1972 Peter was in Putnam County, Ohio and it was that year that Peter married Ella Lucretia Ray from Findley County. To this union eleven children would be born. Peter in later years was was known as “Reverend Lantz” and it was probably in these years that he took to the ministry. Brief years were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana and by 1880 the family had located further west to Blue Springs in Gage County, Nebraska, taking on farming while spreading the ministry. In about 1890 they settled in Galena Township of Hayes County, Nebraska. In Hayes County he would live the remainder of his life. He died on July 1, 1902 in Galena Township, at the age of 62 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
