Notwithstanding his advance in years Mr. Schilz had been comparatively robust until one week before his death, when he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. His condition then became one of grave uncertainty, and he was given every attention at command of his watchers. The end came quickly and without further warning. Peter Schilz was born January 20, 1814, in Rhine province, Germany. He lived in the old country for fifty years, and then came to America and located on a farm in Putnam county, Illinois. Thirteen years ago he came to Columbus. He had resided on a little patch of ground east of the hospital. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, John and William Schilz, who reside here. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, with burial in the Catholic cemetery. _____ The Columbus Journal, October 30, 1901, p. 3, col. 4 In addition to what appeared in last week's JOURNAL in regard to Peter Schilz, who died Tuesday of last week, we note that he was born near Trier, Germany, Jan. 20, 1814; he married in 1835 to Miss Margaret Hippert, who died in 1871. They had five children, two of whom survive, John of Oconee and William of this city. His second wife survives him at the age of 84 years. They have lived in Columbus since 1888. The funeral was last Thursday, burial in Catholic cemetery.
