Description	:	Per Jonsson was born February 28 and baptized February 29 in 1852 in Söderala Parish, Lysnäs, Gavleborg County. His parents were Jons Persson and Katrina Jansdotter. Peter and Carin Ersdotter married on October 19, 1875 in Skog Parish, Gavleborg County. Peter and Carin immigrated from Sweden in 1882. Peter and Carin Ersdotter married on October 19, 1875 in Skog Parish, Gavleborg County. Peter and Carin immigrated from Sweden in 1882. Disembarking at Castle Garden, New York, they settled on the farm near Marquette, Hamilton County, Nebraska. Peter and Carin's children were Hannah, Peter Eric Jr., Katarina, Lars Olof "Louis" and Emma. Katarina stayed in Sweden with her paternal grandparents when her family emigrated. Her mother, Carin, passed away before Katarina joined the family in Nebraska. Katarina and her grandparents, Jons and Katrina; her Uncle John Tunell's wife, Anna, and their children; and, her Aunt Christina Tunall immigrated in 1887. Katarina died of pnuemonia in 1899. Lars Olaf, called Louis, was born on July 15, 1881. He died in 1882 during the sea voyage. He was buried after the ship landed at Castle Garden, New York. He is most likely buried on Hart Island as was usual at that time for deaths that ocurred during the emigration voyage. Emma was born in Nebraska, three months after the family artived in the U.S. Carin died in 1885. Peter married Miss Anna L. Johnson, daughter of Israel Bengston and Engelof Nelson on May 16, 1896 in Hamilton County, Nebraska (marriage record). Before marrying Peter, Anna was known to the family as Mrs. Currin. She may have had a son from her previous marriage. Peter became a naturalized US citizen on January 30, 1911 at the District Court in Aurora, Hamilton County, Nebraska. He applied for a passport on April 15, 1912 in preparation for a trip to Sweden with Anna. Anna and Peter returned from their visit to Sweden, departing Liverpool, England on the ship Oceanic on July 31, 1912 and arriving in New York on August 7, 1912. Peter's funeral was on Sunday, August 24, 1919 with services from the home and then from the Swedish Mission Church, Rev. K. A. Isakson officiating. Descendants of Peter, Sr.'s brother John Tunell, when doing genealogical research in Sweden, found several interesting facts regarding the family surnames. On what appeared to be a census record (1871-1875), Peter Sr. is listed as Per Jonson (born February 28, 1852) with wife Carin Ersdotter (born October 16, 1855) and a daughter Johanna Törnell (born June 25, 1875; this is Hannah). Another document showed Katarina listed as Katarina Persdotter Törnell at the time of her immigration in 1887. Katarina and Johanna were the only family members found with the Törnell name. Johanna was called Hannah after the family immigrated. Subsequently, additional records were found on the Ancestry website. Swedish church emigration records show that Per Tornell Jonsson, Carin Ersdotter, Per Eric Persson Tornell, Lars Olof Persson Tornell and Johanna Frederika departed Skog, Gaveleborg, Sweden for Central City, North America on July 27, 1882. Swedish ship records show P. Tonell, Carin Tonell, Johanna Tonell, Per Tonell, Lars Tonell and Johan Jonson departed Goteborg, Sweden for Hull, England on the ship Orlando on August 11, 1882. A U.S. passenger list shows that P. Tonell, Carin Tonell, Johana Tonell, Per Tonell, Lars Tonell (deceased, incorrectly listed as Lara) arrived in New York from Liverpool, England on the ship Germanic on August 28, 1882. Sources: 1.
