Description	:	Boyd Russell Bacon, 84, of rural Council Grove, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Morris County Hospital. Boyd was born September 27, 1931 on the farmstead near Dunlap, Kansas, the son of Luella (Baker) and Frank A. Bacon. In 1954 Boyd volunteered in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending most of his tour of duty in Germany. He was a proud veteran and was honorably discharged in 1962. Read More	Boyd Russell Bacon, 84, of rural Council Grove, Kansas passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Morris County Hospital. Boyd was born September 27, 1931 on the farmstead near Dunlap, Kansas, the son of Luella (Baker) and Frank A. Bacon. In 1954 Boyd volunteered in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending most of his tour of duty in Germany. He was a proud veteran and was honorably discharged in 1962. Upon returning from Germany in 1956, Boyd married Ruth Tillery in Turon, Kansas. He worked in the oil fields for 1 year near Pratt, Kansas before returning to the Dunlap community to continue with his wife, the life of farming and ranching which he loved. Boyd was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star over 50 years, and the Isis Shrine. With his wife, he received several awards from the Morris County Conservation District and also served on that board from 1979 – 1987. Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Bechtel, Lois West, Ruth Johnson and brother, Frank Eugene Bacon. Boyd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth, of the home, son Daniel J. Bacon and wife Kim, daughters Diane Euler and husband Steve, Nanci Sigle and Willie V. Williams, Grandchildren Lexia Anthony, Kaleena Delk, Danielle Blue, Bethany Nelson, Amber Bacon, Matthew Bacon, Jacob Sigle, Bonnie Jo Steele and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26 at 10:00 am at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church. Burial with Military honors will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Thursday, August 25 at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church or Shriner’s Hospital Burn Center.
