Hinson has been informed by the war department that her husband, Private First Class Hinson, was Killed in Action, February 6, in the Philippines. Several weeks ago, after she had not heard from her husband since January, Mrs. Hinson received a letter from a young SC soldier, who told her that he had happened to walk through a military cemetery and noticed a grave with her husband's name on it. He wrote a letter of sympathy, which was a shock to Mrs. Hinson, since she had not been officially informed by the government of her husband's death. She received last week several letters from soldier's in her husband's company commending him highly for his fine character and good soldiering. They said he was killed by a Japanese mortar shell. Private Hinson, son of Mrs. Hezekiah Hinson and the late Mr. Hinson, attended the Mullins schools and Wofford College. For several years he operated Hinson's Grocery, leaving in 1942 to enter the army. He was stationed at Camp Livingston, La. prior to going overseas. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Ruth Sanders of Chester who lives here; his mother; three brothers, Travis Hinson of Mullins, Ashley Hinson of Horry County and Sgt. Waldo Hinson of the army in Europe; and five sisters, Miss Mary Hinson of Mullins and Winston-Salem, Mrs. George Manley of Mullins, Mrs. W. E. Floyd and Mrs. E. M. Holmes, both of Wilmington, N.C. and Mrs. J. B. Kennington of Conway. Private Hinson was one of Mullins most popular and well known young men. His fine personality had won for him many friends.
