Description : Clyde "Dick" Custer was killed Sept 16 1944 in the Peleliu Island invasion. A member of the Marine Crps, He was serving with the Sixth Amphibious Battalion, First Marine Division at the time of his death. He was killed when the landing craft, of which he was crew chief, struck a mine.He was sent over seas in Jan. 1944 and participated in the invasion of the Marshall Islands. Clyde was born Aug 31 1924 Clyde graduated from South High School in 1943. He was a member of the South High School Football team. He worked at the Lima Tank Depot
