His was the second battle death in the Bloms families of Minot in the past two months. Private Bloms' cousin, Pvt. Edward Bloms, 30, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bloms, Minot, was killed in action in Italy September 17. Serving with an infantry unit, Pfc. Fred Bloms went overseas in July and had been in Italy before being sent to France. He was inducted in the army July 14, 1942 and was a truck driver at Fort Snelling, Minn., until January, 1943 when he went to Camp Claiborne, La. In November, 1943, he went to Camp Howze, Tex., where he remained until going to an embarkation point for overseas duty. A brother, Sgt. Ralph Bloms, is serving with the signal corps in France. Other sisters and brothers of Pfc. Bloms are Mrs. John Savelkoul, Lansford, Mrs. Neiman Chrisman, Glenburn, Martin Bloms, Glenburn, Mrs. Francis Bradley, Minot, and Helen, Clarence, Daniel, Henry and Bernice, all at home. A brother-in-law, Francis Bradley is serving with the forces in the Phillipines. Fred was born at Foxholm July 26, 1911. He attended the public schools there and was engaged in farming for himself at Foxholm. He was employed as foreman at the Parker ranch for four years. His parents resided on their farm ten miles northeast of Foxholm for 35 years until moving to Minot last fall. From an article in the Minot Daily News.
