Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 1 to 5 p.m. The family requests that no memorial be offered. He was born in Hyattville, Wyo., in a three sided shack with a tarp stretched over the fourth side, on Feb. 26, 1918, to Robert E. Kennedy and Nancy Elizabeth (Monroe) Kennedy. The Kennedy children were Florence, Harold, LaVern, Wayne, Homer, Elsie, Bessie, Jessie, Fern and Ruby. He served in World War II in the Army from March 4, 1941 to the summer of 1945. He trained in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was there during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was stationed at Schofield barracks and watched as the Japanese planes flew through the gap headed to Pearl Harbor. He served on Lackey Island, Dutch New Guinea, and Australia and was a PFC in the Field Artillery Battalion 24th Division. Homer's grandfather Monroe was a brother to President Monroe, who wrote the Monroe Doctine. He married Irene Guy in 1945 and they had a baby boy, Ivan Irvin, who died at birth. This wife died and Homer then moved to Colorado where he met and married Virgie Mae Hubbard Sanford, April 5, 1947. They had three children, Elsie Eloise, Elizabeth Daphna and Douglas Homer Kennedy as well as four stepchildren, Melba, Jean Patricia, Elda and Alfred Sanford. He worked as a farmer and fed cattle and as a mechanic-welder in the petroleum industry. He was employed for 20 years with BC Well Service in Rangely, Colo., until his retirement. He was active in the Rangely Roping Club and served as president of that club for two years and was on the board of directors for 13 years. He helped build the new rodeo arena and horse barns. He helped put on many rodeos and other events held at the arena. He and his wife Virgie were honored as Grand Marshals at the Rangely rodeo and parade in 1987. He and his horse LD were always ready to be a pickup team or part of any event happening at the rodeo grounds. He returned to Gateway, Colo., in 1997 to live near his children and grandchildren where he enjoyed working in his yard. In the fall of 2000 he went to Nebraska where he lived with his nephew Harry and Mary Bristol until his death. Homer is survived by his children, 28 grandchildren 50+ great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
