Description	:	Pfc. Marvin Vaughn Smalley, the youngest son of Lee and Edith Smalley, was born on the farm home near Mt. Clare, May 8th, 1920. At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Ayr, Nebraska, living there one year, then moving to Oak where the family resided for eleven years, after the death of his father June 5th, 1935. Read More	Pfc. Marvin Vaughn Smalley, the youngest son of Lee and Edith Smalley, was born on the farm home near Mt. Clare, May 8th, 1920. At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Ayr, Nebraska, living there one year, then moving to Oak where the family resided for eleven years, after the death of his father June 5th, 1935. He and his mother owned and operated the Ideal Cafe in Davenport, Nebr. In the spring of 1937 they moved back to Oak, when Marvin entered the C.C. Camp at Nelson, later going with the camp to the Black Hills in South Dakota for two years. He then moved with his mother to Shickley, Nebraska, on April 1, 1939, where on January 20, 1942, he joined the armed forces, going from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Camp Wolters, Texas. Later he was transferred to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He was sent from there to Leesville, La., on maneuvers and from there to Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. In the winter of 1942-43 he was sent to North Michigan with the Ski Troopers and in September, 1943 he went oversea with with Co. L 38 Inft, 2nd Div. to Northern Ireland. In February, 1944 he was sent to England and then to France where he took part in the Invasion of Europe June 6th, 1944, losing his life in battle on Cherbough Peninsula June 24, 1944. Marvin attended grade school at Oak and high school in Davenport. He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Edith M. Bugert of Shickley, Nebr., one brother, Cecil Smalley of Fort Lewis, Washington, one sister Maudie Lee Fredericksen of Denver, Colo., one niece and one nephew, besides a hos of other relatives and many friends.
