Description	:	Phania “Pat” L. DeJong, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 28, 2018 at Hinton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. DeJong, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 28, 2018 at Hinton United Methodist Church. Phania was born the daughter of Fred and Goldie (Fletcher) Gulick on Oct. 2, 1929 in Sioux City, Ia. She was raised and educated in Sloan and Whiting. She was also a resident of Kingsley, Estherville, Centerville, Cherokee and Hinton, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cherokee and in Hinton, the Eagles Auxiliary in South Sioux City and the Siouxland Senior Center. She worked for Cherokee Refrigeration and Holden Monument in Cherokee, Zenith and Daystar in Sioux City and Plymouth Manor Nursing Home in LeMars before retiring in 1991. She loved to sing and dance and was a great seamstress and gardener in her earlier years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, music, bowling and playing cards. She played the organ by ear for her own enjoyment and sang in the church choir in Cherokee. She never met a stranger and would start a conversation with anyone, anywhere. She loved her country and did not hesitate to share her political views. She married John Noble on April 14, 1948 and is survived by one daughter, Pamela (Tom) French and one son, Charles (Marla) Noble from that marriage; as well as by four grandchildren, Stephanie (Bill) Sand, Charles "Chad" (Melissa) French, John (Abby) Noble and Jeff (Jennie) Noble. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren from that marriage: Jeff (Amber) Sand, Hannah Sand, Landon French, Brooklyn French, Julia Noble, Matilda Noble and Kinnick Noble. She married Gerard DeJong on Jan. 23, 1971 and is survived by two stepsons, Gary DeJong and Rod Stokes; four stepdaughters, Rebecca VanRooyan, Jeanne Plantenberg, Sandy Wyatt and Roxanne Schleis from that marriage; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Helen Noble, Ila Gulick and Ginger Gulick; and by many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Noble and her second husband, Gerard DeJong; four brothers, William "Bud", Freddie, Zane and David Gulick and two sisters, Leta "Toots" Copple and Olive Copple; one stepson, Terry DeJong, one stepdaughter, Lavonne DeJong and a very dear friend, Lawrence Blackmore.
