Burial followed at Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe. Philip was born February 20, 1924 in Bowdle, SD to Jacob and Johanna Wald Huft. He attended country school. Philip married Leona Haux on June 26, 1949. They farmed together northwest of Bowdle before moving to a farm northwest of Roscoe, SD. In 1969 they moved off the farm. He worked in the city liquor Store, at South Dakota Wheat Growers and for Edmunds County. In his spare time repaired small engines and lawn mowers, etc. He could often be found in a rousing pinochle card game with his buddies, driving around on site-seeing adventures and ending his night watching wheel of fortune with a bowl of ice cream. He especially enjoyed spending every moment he could with all of his grandchildren. Philip died Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Thankful for having shared in his life are his two sons and daughters-in-law; three daughters and sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law of La Verne, CA; three sisters; fifteen grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. His parents; wife, Leona; son, Richard; grandsons, Shane Herd and Nathaniel Beck; brothers, Jacob, Adam, David and Henry and sister, Mary Sandmeier preceded him in death.
