Description	:	Philip L. Hand, 89, a lifelong resident of rural Center Point, Iowa, died, Sunday, March 23, 2008, in his home. Phil was born September 23, 1918, the son of Clarence and Olive (Augustine) Hand, on the Hand Family Century Farm in Center Point, Iowa. Phil graduated from Center Point High School in 1936. He paid a friend a nickel to sit beside a pretty young girl at a basketball tournament in Walker. He ended up dating her, and then, on May 3, 1941, he married that pretty girl, Berniece Shaffer, in Cedar Rapids. They made their home for 66 years... Read More	Philip L. Hand, 89, a lifelong resident of rural Center Point, Iowa, died, Sunday, March 23, 2008, in his home. Phil was born September 23, 1918, the son of Clarence and Olive (Augustine) Hand, on the Hand Family Century Farm in Center Point, Iowa. Phil graduated from Center Point High School in 1936. He paid a friend a nickel to sit beside a pretty young girl at a basketball tournament in Walker. He ended up dating her, and then, on May 3, 1941, he married that pretty girl, Berniece Shaffer, in Cedar Rapids. They made their home for 66 years in the same house where Phil was born, raised, and died. Phil was a lifelong farmer and was a member of The Farmland Industry Board of Directors and The Linn Co-Op Board of Directors. His grandson, Kale, remarked that Phil was one of those farmers who would only use John Deere tractors and Pioneer Seed. Family was very important to Phil and he was always proud of that fact.
