Short, 65, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at his home in Burrton, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born December 11, 1951, in Newton, Kansas, to Lewis M. and Rachel Jean (Giggy) Short. He graduated from Burrton High School in 1969. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, on a football scholarship. He was a rural mail carrier for 20 years in Derby, Kansas, and worked for King Construction, Hesston, Kansas, for several years before returning to Burrton in 2001. He worked for Hardwood Millwork in Burrton for the last 15 and a half years. For several years, he was a volunteer at Valley Hope in Moundridge, Kansas. He enjoyed hunting on the family owned land north of Burrton and spending time there with his beloved dog, Lizzie. He loved to ride his Harley. He married Beth Sharlow in 1975 and had two sons, Levi and Joey. He married Shannon Elliott in 1981 and had a daughter, Rachel, and a son, Seth. On April 2, 2010, he married Jean Anne ‘Annie’ Baker in Newton. He is survived by: his wife, Annie Short; brother, Allen Short of Hutchinson, KS; sons, Levi (Shannon) Short of Gardner, KS, Joe (Kelli Carter) of Yoder, KS, Seth Short of Burrton, KS; daughter, Rachael (Alphonso) Meza of Wichita, KS; step-daughter, Haylie McMurry of Burrton, KS; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Larry and Jerry Short; and sister, LuJean Graybill.
