He had been ill two years. A native son of what is now known as Treasure County, Sheriff Isaac was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Isaac, pioneer resident of the Treasure Community. Active in law enforcement work since 1922, Sheriff Isaac was serving what he had decided was to be his last term as sheriff at the time of his death. He had not filed for the office at the last primary election and would have stepped down from 28 years of public service next January. Sheriff Isaac's father, who died in 1898, was engaged in the ranching industry during his entire life in Montana. One of the oldest registered brands in the state, the "IRS Bar," was issued to the elder Isaac and was retained by his son, Philip. Sheriff Isaac was born April 23, 1882, on the ranch home of his parents at Myers and attended school at a log cabin several miles from his home. He started ranching in 1905 and was active in ranch management until his election as sheriff in 1922. He was married in Myers to Edna Guy, daughter of Robert Guy, a Pease Bottom pioneer. Sheriff Isaac was the second sheriff named to office by Treasure County voters. The first officer was John Taylen, who was appointed to the post. At the first election, T. J. Cunningham of Hysham received the majority of votes. He was succeeded by Sheriff Isaac. One of the sheriff's first official acts after taking office in 1923 was to officiate at a double hanging. The men executed had been involved in the murder of an under sheriff. Sheriff Isaac was one of the relatively few residents in the state who lived in three different counties without changing his residence. His home was first in Custer County, then Rosebud and lastly, treasure, as creation of new counties in the state resulted in boundary line changes. Sheriff Isaac was a member of the Hysham Masonic Lodge No. 129 and of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors, beside the widow, include two sons, O. G. Isaac of Miles City, and P. J. Isaac; twin daughters, Mrs. Irving Mariner of Hysham, and Mrs. H. L. Jenkins of Spokane, WA.; a brother, Walter Isaac of Myers; two sisters, Mrs. A. W. Bradley of Thermopolis, WY., and Mrs. C. V. Kimball of Myers and six grandchildren.
