Description	:	Phillip Wayne Holder, 101, of Ottumwa, died at 3:14 p.m. May 26, 2019 at MercyOne in Des Moines. He was born December 18, 1917 in Wayne County, IA to Leo and M. Viola Schaefer Holder. He married Maxine E. Swanson May 17, 1942 and she preceded him in death September 24, 1999. Wayne served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Army Reserves after 30 years. Read More	Phillip Wayne Holder, 101, of Ottumwa, died at 3:14 p.m. May 26, 2019 at MercyOne in Des Moines. He was born December 18, 1917 in Wayne County, IA to Leo and M. Viola Schaefer Holder. He married Maxine E. Swanson May 17, 1942 and she preceded him in death September 24, 1999. Wayne served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Army Reserves after 30 years. He was a Pattern Maker for John Deere for 30 years. He worked 18 years in Ottumwa, 2 years in Dubuque, and 10 years in Waterloo, retiring in 1975. He continued to operate his own woodworking and pattern making shop throughout his retirement. Wayne was a member of First Lutheran Church. Surviving is a daughter, Cindy (Ted) Latos of Ottumwa; a son-in-law, Greg Speer of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Kari (Robert) Votava of Roselle, IL, Thomas Matthew (Georgia) Speer of Niles, IL; two great grandchildren, Aphrodite and Nikolaos with a great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo; mother and step-father, Viola and Curtis Mundon; a brother, Jim Holder and a daughter, Bonnie Jo Speer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
