Description	:	James Lon Holder, 93, of Ottumwa, passed away Feb. 21, 2012, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. James was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Wayne County to Leo Holder and Viola Schaeffer Holder. He married Betty Lea Westbrook in Olathe, Kan., on May 10, 1947. He will be greatly missed. Jim retired from John Morrell Company in 1974. James was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Wayne County to Leo Holder and Viola Schaeffer Holder. He married Betty Lea Westbrook in Olathe, Kan., on May 10, 1947. He will be greatly missed. Jim retired from John Morrell Company in 1974. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 for more than 50 years. He was also a Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor. He attended several runions for the crew of the USS Tennesee. He was also a Little League coach for more than 20 years and the Midwest Little League baseball field is named in his honor, "Jim Holder field." Jim also enjoyed bowling, playing pool and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He is survived by his spouse; a daughter, Jackie(Tom)Merchant; four grandchildren, Scott, Jennifer(Dick)Stuart, Todd and Lisa Merchant; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Taylor Grundler; a brother, Wayne Holder; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 am Friday at the Shrine of Memories Funeral Home; with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday with the family present from 5-7 pm Thursday.
