Dreibus, Helen G. Greibus, Mrs. Plummer Purdham, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs.Clem Ballweg, Spalding. Miss Phoebe Alice Ferris was born on a farm at Anamosa, Ia., on March 19, 1869 to Jedidiah and Mary Page Ferris. When a very small child, her parents emigrated to Howard County, settling on a farm 4 miles north of St. Paul. When Alice was 16 years of age, she found employment in Omaha where she was a seamstress. Alice was a very ambitious and independent person. At one time, she homesteaded a tract of land in the western part of Nebraska. This she held for many years, and disposed of it only to purchase a home in St. Paul for her retirement years. In 1948, she moved here permanently. Alice, as affectionately she was known, was a very sociable person and endeared herself to everyone she met. She never married and was interested in reading, cooking and sewing up to the time of her last illness. She was also a very religious person, and listened to the services on the radio. She entered the hospital the first part of September and Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9th closed her eyes to this earthly home, at the age of 93 years. She is the last of her family, having been preceded in death by her brothers, Henry and John Edward Ferris, and two sisters Mrs. Abigail Bartholomew and Mrs. Mary Jacobs. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and many friends.
