Description	:	Phyllis M. Rod, 50, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Denver and Clear Lake, Iowa, died Oct. 21, 1998 at her home in Yuma of cancer. Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 25, with the Rev. Dean Hess and the Rev. Doctor Steven Ullestad, Bishop, conducted the service. Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 26, at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Phyllis was born Feb. 3, 1948, in rural Lone Rock, Iowa, the daughter of A.B. and Ella Jensen Cherland. She received her education at Central Schools, rural Fenton, Iowa; Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, and graduated from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1970 as a registered nurse. She married Robert Rod on May 29, 1971 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minn. She worked most recently in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, before moving to Arizona in April of 1977. She was a member of Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma, the women of the ELCA, and was a volunteer in the surgical family waiting area at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her parents, of Algona, Iowa; her husband, Bob, of Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Jason of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a daughter, Sonja, Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers and wives and children, Donald and Debra Cherland, Tina and Andrew of St. Paul, Minn; Roger and Cheryl Cherland, Jennifer, John and Jill of rural Lone Rock, Iowa, and Steven and Darlene Cherland, Keith, Kevin and Cole of rural Lone Rock; her mother-in-law, Inge Rod of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, John and Sharon Jahnke and their children, Kristin and Hans, St. Paul, Iowa.
