Decatur Daily Democrat, Adams County, Indiana Tuesday, June 11, 1974 Pierce C. Harnish dies at Bluffton Pierce C. Harnish, 83, of Bluffton route 1, well-known in the Adams county area and a former Wells county commissioner and state highway department superintendent, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday in Cooper rest home. He had been in failing health the last six months. A son of John and Ida Showmaker Harnish, he was born May 7,1891 in Rockcreek township. His marriage Dec. 31, 1909 in Wells county was to Iva Mae Holloway, who preceded him in death in June of 1962. A lifelong resident of this county and the last of his family, he was a retired farmer and co-partner in the Dutch Main Car Wash in Bluffton. A graduate of Bluffton Business College, he formerly served as vice president and director of the Federal Land Bank for a period of 20 years. He served as a county commissioner from 1944-1948, as Democratic county chairman from 1948-1952 and also as state highway sub district superintendent from 1948-1952. Survivors include three sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Thoma-Rich funeral home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
