Nelson was born in Sheridan, La Salle county, Illinois on March 31, 1870. He moved with his parents to Albion, Nebraska in 1879. In 1881 he went with his uncle to a homestead near Spalding, Greeley county, where he spent his boyhood. Nelson was born in Sheridan, La Salle county, Illinois on March 31, 1870. He moved with his parents to Albion, Nebraska in 1879. In 1881 he went with his uncle to a homestead near Spalding, Greeley county, where he spent his boyhood. Later he went to Illinois where he had employment as a carpenter, remaining there until the land opening on the Pine Ridge and Rose Bud reservations in South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Angeline Corrine Groff of Illinois on July 22, 1916 at White River, So. Dakota. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Edward Sowl of Fullerton; Grace Nelson, Central City, Corneluis (sic) of Cairo, Nebraska; Wayne and Margaret Nelson both at home and Clover Elaine Nelson of York. He leaves to mourn, his wife and brothers, Marshal Nelson of Omaha, Bill Nelson of Madison; three sisters, Mrs. Bert Welch of Grand Island; Mrs. A. J. Patterson of Kearney, Mrs. George Vandenburg of Stanford, Mont. Mr. Nelson and family resided in Palmer for several months last summer, moving here from Cushing and going from here to Fullerton.
