Pratt Allen was a farmer in Canterbury, Conn., and a manufacturer of woolen goods at Hanover, Conn., with his son Ebenezer. He was a Revolutionary soldier a short time during the years 1780-81, being only about sixteen years of age. He died about 1851, aged eighty-six years. He worked on the farm and taught school till he was twenty-one years of age, when, in 1813, he settled at Hanover, in the town of Sprague, Conn., and commenced the manufacture of cotton and woolen goods with his father. The original woolen-mill was built by his father, Pratt Allen. It was destroyed by fire in 1834, and was rebuilt by him (Ebenezer). They lived in Canterbury, and their children were — 1) Harvey, born Sep. 28, 1789; m. in 1813, Luceba Adams; lived in Lisbon, Ct. 2) Ebenezer, born Nov. 22, 1791; m. (1) Elizabeth Bingham; (2) Lydia Bass; (3) Harriet Morgan. 3) A son died Apr. 16, 1794 aged 1 mo. 4) A son died Mar. 15, 1795 aged 32 days. 5) A daughter (twin) born and died Dec. 26, 1795. 6) Desire (twin), born Dec. 26, 1795; m. in 1828, Avander Fuller; his second wife; lived and died in Lisbon, Ct. 7) Lucretia, born May 29, 1798, died Oct. 9, 1799. 8) Rhoda, born Sep. 21, 1800; m. in 1826, William Pollard Spicer. 9) George Washington, born Jan. 19, 1803, was both deaf and dumb; m. May 3, 1832, Mary Russel, who was also deaf, but could talk a little. 10) Mary, born and died 1805. 11) Lois, born Oct. 19, 1806, died 1809. 12) Lydia Eliza, born Oct. 19, 1806; m. 1829, her sisters widower, William Pollard Spicer. 13) Marvin Witter, born April 17, 1811. 14) Alexander, born Aug. 20, 1814; m. in 1841, Caroline M Allen of Vermillionville, Ill., daughter of Amos Allen and Mary Fletcher. -------------------------
