Synak were held last Friday morning at 9 o'clock from DeMark Memorial Chapel, thence to St. Bernard's church where mass was said for the repose of his soul by Father Joseph J. McGlave. A rosary was said on Thursday evening at the chapel. Synak died a week ago Wednesday at the company hospital [Southern Pacific RR], San Francisco, where he had been taken only the day before after having been suddenly stricken at his home here. Synak was born at Horace, Nebraska, January 10, 1897. He graduated from the Loup City, Nebraska schools and immediately started on his railroad career. In 1916 he married Helen Golka. At the entrance of the United States in the World War, Synak enlisted in the Engineers and was engaged in the battle at Lys Scheldt, Belgium, where Synak was gassed and shellshocked, after which he spent many months in hospitals. After returning home from the war Synak again took up railroad work with the Union Pacific, Burlington, Western Pacific and the Southern Pacific. In all he spent 27 years in railroading, the last 12 with Southern Pacific, the last two years of which he spent in Tracy as locomotive fireman. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. Surviving relatives here are the widow, Mrs. Helen Synak, four daughters, Florence, Carol and Patricia Synak, all of Tracy, and Mrs. George Colling of Angela Camp, and one son, Eugene Synak of Tracy. One brother, J. J. Synak, Loup City, Nebraska, and two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Eurek, Loup City and Mrs. B. J. Eurek, Fullerton, Nebraska, also survive. Interment was in Tracy cemetery where father McGlave conducted graveside services. Contributor, Patricia, #47200326
