Stodard, an old settler and veteran of the Civil War, died at his home in Eureka, Tuesday, March 3, 1908, of Hodgkin's disease, aged 62 years, four months and four days. Mr. Stoddard had been ill for several months and for weeks past had been confined to his bed. Mr. Stodard came to Kansas in 1858 settling first at Burlingame, Osage County, Kansas. In 1867 he came to Eureka. For many years he was engaged in the hardware business in Eureka and in the late Eighties was Mayor of Eureka. He enlisted as a volunteer soldier in the 11th Kansas Cavlary in 1963 when but a boy and served until the close of the war. He was a prominent Mason and an honorable gentleman who enjoyed the acquaintance and friendship of hundreds of people in Greenwood County who mourn his death.∼H.L. Funeral services in charge of the Masonic Order of Eureka, assisted by Pastor O.J. Law of the Christian Church were held at the family residence at 2o'clock this afternoon.
