Mustered out Jul 15, 1865, at Nashville, Tenn., by James P. W. Neill, Captain 18th Infantry, U.S.A., Acting Commissary of Musters Cavalry Corps, M.D.M. (The Story of the Fourth Regiment Ohio Veteran Volunteer Caavalry, Company A, Page 159) On May 1, 1870 Henry Barnes as an invalid applied for a military pension. (see image). The logbook for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, Page 10471, Henry Barnes gives his Military History as enlisted on Feb 24, 1864 in Dayton, Ohio, with Company A, 4 Ohio Cav, and discharged on Jul 15, 865 in Nashville, Tenn, at the close of war. The reason for admitance to the Home was listed as hemorrhoids, lumbago, and one other that is too hard to read. His Domestic History shows born in Virginia, age 67, five foot ten inches tall, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, can read, a laborer, his residence subsequent to discharge was Wichitas, Kans., a widow, and then name and address of nearest relative was Alice Chambers, 918 Palin Street, Keokuk, Iowa. His Home History shows he was there on four occasions: Oct 29, 1908 to Dec 16, 1908; Mar 22, 1910 to Feb 25, 1911; Dec 3, 1911 to Mar 30, 1912; and Sep 24, 1912 to Sep 22, 1914. His pension certificate was No. 844.135. (See image) (Note: Alice Chamber, husband, Jack W Chambers who worked at Huiskamp Brothers, resided at 916 Palean according to the 1926 Keokuk City Directory. The 1925 Iowa Census shows Alice (Barnes) Chambers father is Henry M. Barnes. His birth year was about 1841. Here mother was Sarah Rogers.) Buried on Jan 12, 1926 by Cunningham Funeral Home. Mrs. Lovena Tryon applied for the military veteran headstone on May 15, 1926 while living at 820 Exchange Street, Keokuk, Iowa. The application showed Henry Barnes as with Company A, 4th Ohio Cavalry. (see image of card) (Note: In the 1926 Keokuk City Directory, Lovena Tryon, husband, Jos C. Tryon, a tinner for Seither & Cherry, resided at 820 Exchange.)
