Wyatt was born near Mayetta, March 7, 1896, and died at the home of Fred Blossom six miles southeast of Holton, July 14, 1924. He was a soldier in the great war going with Company B. WYATT John P. Wyatt was born near Mayetta, March 7, 1896, and died at the home of Fred Blossom six miles southeast of Holton, July 14, 1924. He was a soldier in the great war going with Company B. He was in Camp Doniphan for his training and was in some of the hardest fighting in the Argonne Forest in 1918. He was in the front line trenches several times, the worst of which was probably from September 26 to October 2. At the close of the war he was kept at Sampigny where the boys fought discomfort and homesickness. John was gassed at the front and has not been strong since his return. He tried to work but developed leakage of the heart and grew very sick last Friday and never rallied until the end, which came Monday night. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged father, two sisters, Mrs. Fred Blossom of Holton, and Miss Chestina Wyatt of Cleming, Col., and five brothers, Dalton of Westmoreland, Floyd C. of Wyoming, Ernest of Westmoreland, Edward of Mayotta, and Frank of Forest Green, Mo., besides other relatives and many friends. Services were held at the M. E. church at 2:30 Wednesday. The National Guard was out to pay respects to the deceased soldiers. A quartet sang, “Tenting on the Old Camp Ground”. Rev. Waring officiated. The body was laid to rest in the Holton cemetery.
