Description	:	Joseph was severely wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga ,,,he was hit with a cannon Canister round,,, shrapnel hitting him in both legs... He served long...and suffered for it..... He and his family moved to California in 1869..... He was the Chaplain, Aide-De-Camp, Surgeon and Color Bearer for Rawlins Grand Army of The Republic Post # 22., in Stockton, California. He was actively involved in the Grand Army of the Republic Organization. He died of stomach cancer, at the Veterans Home in Yountville, California.. About 1915 he separated from his second wife and was living... He did not seem to be close to several of his children,,,,, but Morten and his daughter Jesse remained in touch with him...... On his documents at the Veterans home,,, his next of kin was his daughter, Jessie (Croghan) Eubanks. He was admitted to the Veterans Home of California in Yountville on 7 March 1916.... and died there 31 March 1916....... His son Louis (1868-?) has not been found.... daughters, Minnie May Winslow (1876-?)....and Mrs James Barry (Hattie L , whom I believe is Harriet L) , (1861-?) also have not been found........ No obituary has been found........ On his Soldiers home documents, he could not read or write...... his enlistment papers had an X,,,, with his name written in. Light Complexion...Eyes - Blue,,,,,Auburn Hair
