Description	:	The residents of Northwest Custer County are mourning the loss of Marion A. Butler, one of the old time settlers who passed away on July 6th. Marion A. Butler was born in Indiana, October 18, 1844. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Millian Hoffman. Neve, Merna; Mrs. Annie E. Barrett, Merna; Thomas H. Butler, Sterling, CO; Frank M. Butler, Sterling CO; Bertha E. Lewis, Merna; and William B. Butler, Myers, MT. He also leaves 36 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one brother to mourn his passing. His wife preceded him to the great beyond 28 years ago. In the year 1882 he homesteaded and has lived the remainder of his life around Ortello. Mr. Butler was a veteran of the Civil War. He departed this life July 6th at the Evans Barrett home after a long illness, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 18 days. The funeral services were held in Ortello and conducted by Rev. W.A. Ferrell. Edward Sittler was in charge of the funeral and arrangements. Six grandsons of the deceased served as pallbearers. The Custer County Chief Broken Bow, NE 12 July 1917 Page 10.
