Description	:	Melvin E. Timberman, age 89, of Miles City, Montana passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Billings, MT at the Billings Clinic of complications from surgery. Melvin was born December 14, 1919 to William and Matilda (Goucher) Timberman at the family's homestead north of Miles City. The family moved into Miles City in the early 1920's and Melvin began his schooling graduating from Custer County High School. Timberman, age 89, of Miles City, Montana passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Billings, MT at the Billings Clinic of complications from surgery. Melvin was born December 14, 1919 to William and Matilda (Goucher) Timberman at the family's homestead north of Miles City. The family moved into Miles City in the early 1920's and Melvin began his schooling graduating from Custer County High School. In 1939 he operated the Conoco Subway Service Station and then operated the 7th Street Standard Station until 1940. He was married in 1940 to Mary Childers and to this union 4 children were born. In 1941 he went to work for Montgomery Ward and in 1942 he began a career that lasted 38 ½ years with the Milwaukee Railroad beginning as a fireman and eventually becoming an engineer. Melvin also drove truck for Balsam and DeFrance hauling gasoline, Miles City Laundry delivering laundry, and drove for Miles City Cab. During WWII, Melvin entered the US Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. In 1971 he and Mary Lou Ottoy were married in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Melvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church & Eagles Aerie 885 and served as a special deputy sheriff in Custer County for 23 years. Melvin is survived by his wife Mary Lou, a sister, Bonnie (Ken) Bosacker of Billings, MT, three daughters, Donna (Oscar) Ronning of Dickinson, ND, Ruby (Leo) Gottwald, Melva (Ed) Curnan, and son James Timberman and loved one Linda Ewalt all of Miles City, MT; 4 step children, Janet (Don) Wall of Bloomer, WI, Linda Regan of La Habra, CA, Mary (Wiley) Snell and Richard (René ) Ottoy all of Miles City, MT; 24 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Olan, Alva "Dutch" and Willie, 3 sisters: Ina Mae, Lura and Agnes, and a step daughter, Susan Messer. Melvin was also preceded in death by 2 infant great grandchildren: Alexis Hoff and Dalton L'Esperance.
