Description : CSA, Company I, 19th South Carolina Infantry

Son of Samuel Martin (1803-1885) & Mary Ann Polly Richey (1813-1898). When the war started, Robert Marshall Martin, went off to join the Confederate Army. His brother, Benjamin Jasper Martin was only 16 when he joined. As soon as Jasper was 18, he joined also, serving in the same unit with his brother Robert, Company I, 19th South Carolina Rifles, Manigault's Brig., Infantry Volunteers. They were together only 6 monthe, when Robert became ill with a fever, and was sent home, and died in 24 September 1863.
