Ward was born in Stark Co, Ohio, July 18, 1841, and passed away at his home in Lakeside, Wa, April 4, aged 79 years, 8 months and 16 days. His mother died when he was a small boy and he made his home with Simon Dixson, in Cedar Co, Iowa, until early manhood. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in the 35th Iowa Infantry for three years. After being honorably discharged, he then re-enlisted in the 14th Ohio Infantry and served until the close of the war, after which he returned to his home in Iowa. He joined the Friends Church in 1873. He married Catharine J. Hawley March 10, 1866, to which union four daughters and two sons were born: Mrs. Alona Jackson, of West Branch, Iowa; Mrs. Alice Parnham, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Josepha Heacock, of Chelan, (deceased); Mrs. Mary Parsons, of Guthire Center, Iowa. His wife died June 27, 1893, at West Branch, Iowa. In November 1900, he married Mrs. Hannah Varney, of West Branch, Iowa. In 1901 they moved to Lakeside where they have lived happily together in their beautiful little bungalow on the shore of Lake Chelan, until his death. He also leaves two brothers and one sister in Iowa. He suffered a paralytic stroke eight years ago. Since then he has been unable to do any work. About a year ago he became so helpless that he was confined to his wheelchair and six weeks ago took to his bed and he failed very fast until the end. February 14th, his daughter, Mrs. F. Jackson, and husband, came to help care for him. Together with the wife, son and stepchildren did all that loving hands could do for his comfort. The funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Lakeside on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Fowler officiating, with the aid of the GAR and Women's Relief Corps, of which he and his wife were honorary members. Interment was in the Chelan cemetery. Relatives attending from a distance were Mrs. Ella Hair and two sons, Cecil and Clyde, and wife of Dayton, Wa.; Albert Teegarden, Monroe, Wa.; Mr. and Mrs. John Teegarden, from Canada; Charles Teegarden, of Methow, Wa.; W. F. Heacock, Wenatchee, Wa.; Clara Varney Johnston, of Wanette, Wa.; Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Ball and Elva Gruwell, of Entiat, Wa.
