Mrs. W. T. Heacock died at the family home in West Chelan Tuesday morning, June 30, at 3:30 o'clock, death being the result of apoplexy cased by chronic heart trouble. Mrs. Heacock had been in frail health since last February, when she suffered and unusually severe attack of heart disease. She seemed to be steadily regaining her health, however, until a week ago Saturday when an attack of apoplexy cased paralysis of the left side. Notwithstanding this she again began to improve and high hopes were entertained of her ultimate recovery. But these hopes were ruthlessly and hopelessly crushed when a second attack at six o'clock Sunday evening removed all possibility of recover. The funeral was held at the home Thursday morning at ten o'clock and was conducted jointly by Rev. H. J. Gurr of St. Andrews and Rev. Chas. W. Monson, pastor of the M. E. church. Josepha H. Ward was born at West Branch, Iowa, on May 3, 1871, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. M. Ward. With the exception of two or three years, which her parents spent in Kansas during her childhood, all her early life was lived in the state of her birth. She was married to the writer of this unhappy chronicle on December 28, 1890, at West Branch. Three children were born to the union, Myra J., Ward J. and Jerald J. Heacock, all of whom survive and deeply mourn a kind, affectionate and devoted mother; and all of whom, because of the influence of her training and teaching and her example in living to the ideals of true manhood and womanhood, give promise of becoming useful and respected citizens. All who knew her well bear unequivocal testimony to her womanly worth, to the charm and sweetness of her nature, and to the richness of her upright Christian character. No words or phrases which the writer can command can express the weight of the sorrow and misfortune that has fallen upon his home by this bereavement. How great that sorrow is only those who have been similarly bereft can know and realize. It has been his unhappy duty many times in the past as a newspaper man, to witness and to chronicle the sufferings and bereavements of others, and he thought he realized something of the agonizing heartaches which the breaking of home and family ties can bring to those over whose homes the death angel passes; but he now knows that only those who have drunk of the cup of bereavement know the bitterness of the dregs which it contains. Friends and neighbors, with kind and thoughtful words and acts unnumbered, have done their best to break the force of the blow that has fallen upon this broken family and to lighten the burden of sorrow, and their kindness ahs been helpful and has been appreciated beyond words to express. It is one of the compensations of affliction that those who suffer learn over again the truth that many human hearts are large and true and tender, and that after all benevolence and sympathy outweigh all those other sordid emotions which are too often presumed to dominate human life.
