Wounded at Shepherdstown, Md Highland Recorder December 9, 1921 Relatives and friends of Samuel G. Dever were shocked and grieved on last Monday morning to learn of his sudden death at the K.D. hospital on the previous night. Mr. Dever had left here something like a week before, intending to consult a physician in Staunton and go from there to Covington and return through West Virginia, visiting relatives at these two points. He was in his usual health when he left home, but suffered an acute attack of kidney trouble while in Staunton, and died at the hospital, to which he had gone seeking relief. Mr. Dever was a Confederate veteran and about 77 years of age. Most, if not all his life had been spent in the Mill Gap section of Highland, where he had one of the most desirable homes in the county. Highland had no more worthy and deserving citizen; a man of the highest ideals of honesty and integrity. Mr. Dever was twice married, but survived both wives. There is one daughter by the first union, Mrs. Sherman Gibson, who lives in Pocahontas, and the two children by his his second marriage are Ivan Dever, living at the home place, Mill Gap, and Mrs. Jacob Lightner, of Pocahontas. Deceased was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian church, and his funeral, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Mr. Mawhinny, assisted by Rev. Mr. Kupfer, of the M. E. church, was held at Green Hill, Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock.
