He received further training at Camp Hozie, Tex and went overseas in Sept 1944. Born in Columbiana Jan 6, 1924, he graduated from Columbiana High School in 1942. He was president of his class during his junior and senior years and a past president of the HiY Club. He was a member of the National Honarary Society and a member of all the school musical circles. He was a member of Prebyterian Church and active in the Young Peoples work of the church. He attended Case School of Applied Sciences a year and spent a year at Ohio State University where he was a member of the ROTC. He leaves besides his parents, a sister Mrs Gerald Hayes of Youngstown , two brothers, Charles of Lynchburg, VA and Elmer Jr of Youngstown.
