T.S. Pixley of New Salem died at a local hospital at a few minutes after eleven o'clock this morning, August fourteeenth, 1914, of neuratis from which he has been suffering for some time. He was brought to the hospital four weeks ago and the physicians have done all in their power to save him but the disease was more that a man at his advanced age could stand. He was seventy-five years of age and leaves his wife, Almira, and one son, F.W. Pixley of Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Pixley was born on April twenty-second, 1839 at Marietta, Ohio, was married in December fifteenth, 1859. The moved to Winfield in 1877 and went to New Salem one year later where they have resided ever since. He was in the civil war, having joined company "E" of the Tenth Illinois volunteer infantry; was a member of the G.A.R. post and of various Masonic bodies of this city, also of the Winfield commandery, Knights Templars and the Wichita consistory. Mr. Pixley has many friends all over Cowley county who will miss him very much. The funeral will be held at New Salem Sunday and burial will be made in the New Salem cemetery. The Winfield/Commandery, Knights Templars will have charge of the services. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield)
