Description	:	Rives' Battery, Nelson Artillery, CSA W. A. Dodd died at his home in Nelson county Friday morning October 23. His death was not unexpected as he had been ill for nearly two years. Mr. Dodd was born 1840, on the same place where he died. He was 91 years, 5 months and 8 days. He was a confederate veteran serving 4 years in the Civil War under General Lee. His death was not unexpected as he had been ill for nearly two years. Mr. Dodd was born 1840, on the same place where he died. He was 91 years, 5 months and 8 days. He was a confederate veteran serving 4 years in the Civil War under General Lee. He received not a wound during the war. Mr. Dodd was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church for 75 years serving as elder and superintendent of Sunday School as long as he was able to attend, also a worker of the W. C. T. U. for 27 years. The funeral services were held at the residence Saturday morning, October 24, at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. M. Duckwall of Rockfish Presbyterian Church assisted by C. F. Whitmore of Waynesboro Christian Church. He was laid to rest in the Dodd Cemetery. The following grandchildren served as pallbearers, O. A. and Luther McGann, Jack Sailor Lamond and Martin Dodd. The floral tributes which were beautiful and numerous were carried by granddaughters, Misses Sue and Louise McGann, Charlotte and Margaret Dodd, Rachel Quick and Mrs. H. T. Fitzgerald, 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, and a host of friends survive. The sympathy of the community goes to the family in their bereavement.
