Her husband preceded her in death eight years ago. Seventy-three years of age, Mrs. Dodd was born Martha Jane Dodd and had married a Dodd. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by one brother, Woodie Dodd, one half-brother, Jim Lowe, one sister, Miss Emma Dodd, all of Roseland and by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers for funeral services Sunday will be nephews of the deceased. Funeral cortege will leave the Etter Funeral Home here at 2:15 p.m. Sunday. Waynesboro News Virginian-date of paper: June 29, 1945 BEECH GROVE, July 5-Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jane Dood, widow of the late P. S. Dodd, were conducted from the Beech Grove Christian Church last Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Arthur W. Janke, pastor of the Waynesboro Christian Church, in charge of the services. Mrs. Dodd died early Friday morning, June 29, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest W. Fields, after an extended illness. Hymns used were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "God Will Take Care of You," and "Sweet By and By." Interment was in the Dodd cemetery beside the body of her husband who preceded her to the grave eight years ago. The deceased, who was born February 17, 1872, was the youngest daughter of the late William A. and Mrs. Margaret Meeks Dodd. A lifelong member of the Beech Grove Christian Church, her presence will be sorely missed in the church and in the community. She was a sincere Christian, a loving mother, a good friend and her jovial disposition endeared her to all who knew her. The many floral offerings gave mute evidence of the high esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Dodd is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fields, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Fields' six children as follows: Mrs. James D. Lowe, of Beckley, W. Va.; Mrs. Jack Payne, Temple Fields, and McCoy Fields, at home; Sgt. Samuel Fields, of Camp Patrick Henry, Va.; and Pvt. Robert S. Fields, at home on furlough. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Jame Ethan Lowe and Judith Lee Payne; one brother, Woodie Dodd, a half-brother, J. R. Lowe, one sister, Miss Emma Dodd, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Dodd, all of Beech Grove. Pallbearers were C. L. Thompson, Layman Dodd, Jack Dodd, Worthy Thompson, Saylor Dodd, Luther McGann Jr., Alton Fields, L. P. Rodes and Dave Grove. Flower bearers were Mrs. Violet Fitzgerald, Mrs. Hilda Dodd, Mrs. Margaret Campbell, Mrs. Mabel Fitzgerald, Mrs. Ruth McGann, Mrs. Ethel Campbell, Misses Charlotte Dodd, Sheila Meeks, Lillian Lowe, Doris Grove, Mary Sue Gilbert, Marjorie Fields, Patsy Fields, Catherine Fitzgerald, Charlotte Fitzgerald and Lois Meeks.
