E. McCloud in Ryan.Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Ryan Saturday forenoon, the services being conducted by Rev. J. J. Snyder, the pastor of the Ryan church, and Rev. Mr. Beatey of Mt. Vernon. A quartet from Manchester had charge of the music. Interment was made in the cemetery at Silver Creek.Quintin Searight was born in the county Antrim, Ireland, in the year 1834. He came to America in 1851, settling in New York state. During the period from 1851 to 1854 he resided at different points in the states of New York and New Jersey. Leaving New Jersey in 1854, he came to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and resided there until 1870. While living in Pennsylvania he was united in marriage with Miss Martha Baxter, their marriage occurring April 8, 1857. Mr. and Mrs. Searight had no children, but adopted a son, Charles McKay who now resides at Winthrop, Iowa. Mr. Searight came to Iowa in 1870, and settled on a farm a few miles west of Ryan, where he resided until 1894, when he retired from active farm life and removed to the town of Ryan. While living in Ryan Mrs. Searight passed away on April 18th, 1893. During the last few months of his life he made his home with his relatives, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. McCloud, who tenderly cared form him in his last illness.He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and gave liberally of his possessions and time to the furthering of the work the church was doing his home community.By hard work and judicious management Mr. Searight gathered together a neat competency. Deceased was a big hearted man, and was always ready and willing to offer his assistance to those in need. His honesty of purpose and straight forward living won for him the respect of his neighbors, and all those with whom he associated in the transaction of his business. He will be missed by many of the older citizens of the vicinity of Ryan, where he had spent a useful life.Manchester Democrat - Manchester, Iowa - December 30, 1914
