Rachel Waltz, daughter of Abraham and Barbara Abbott, was born near Millville, Henry Co., IN, Aug. 4th 1858. She was of a family of eight children, all but two having preceded her in death. Early in life with her parents she moved to Missouri. In a few years, the father having died, the bereaved family came back to the place of her birth in Henry Co. On May 18, 1878, she was married to William R. Waltz to whom she had proven a devoted and loving companion for over 49 years. To them were born two sons, one having died in infancy. With the exception of three years in Texas, they have lived in Wayne Co. having moved to their late home 3 and 1/2 miles south of Hagerstown, about 17 years ago. She was a member of the society known as the Neighborly Club in which she was very actively interested. About two weeks ago, while going about as usual, she had a sudden stroke of paralysis. Though conscious to the last she gradually grew worse until, on last Friday evening, September 9, 1927, she passed away at the age of 69 years 1 month and 5 days. Thus she leaves to mourn her departure the companion, William; one son and wife: Norman and Grace Waltz; and the grandson, James William, as the bereaved family living in the late home. Besides these, a brother, Samuel Abbott, of Cambridge City; one sister, Mrs. Katie Castor of Leon, IA; and a number of nephews and nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
