Mrs. Brummund was born March 18, 1958, to Nels and Frances (Grella) Christensen in Central City. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Stacey Brummund; children, Shawn Djernes of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Melisa (Hugo) Mendez of Grand Island; her parents of Aurora; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Opal Christensen of Lincoln; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose and Mark Martin of Hayward, Calif., and Christine Frauendorfer of Marquette. Other survivors include a grandson, Maximos of Grand Island; parents-in-law, Robert and Kandi Brummund of Grand Island; two brothers-in-law, Chris Brummund of Grand Island and Chad Brummund of Texas; a sister-in-law, Angie Brummund of Grand Island; many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Rachel spent the first two years of her life on a farm north of Central City. She grew up in Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School in 1976. In 1976, Rachel was married to Lucas Leon Djernes and two children were born to this union, Shawn and Melisa. They lived in Hastings, where Rachel worked at the Plainsman Steakhouse, before they moved to Grand Island in 1989. In Grand Island, Rachel worked for several businesses, including, Anderson Ford, Ace Hardware, Grone's and Advanced Auto. Rachel was married to Stacey Brummund on Aug. 25, 2007. She was a homemaker during this time. Rachel enjoyed playing on pool, bowling and dart leagues. She had been involved in the Jaycees, Girl Scouts and 4-H.
