Description	:	AURORA — Roger Christensen, 66, of Aurora, formerly of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Lester S. Read More	AURORA — Roger Christensen, 66, of Aurora, formerly of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Roger Dean Christensen, the son of Nels Hans and Frances Louise (Grella) Christensen, was born in Central City on Dec. 28, 1951, and passed away in Aurora on Oct. 6, 2018, at the age of 66. He attended the Country School District 21 north of Central City through second grade. The family moved to Marquette and he graduated from Marquette High School in 1970. Roger served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1996. When he returned home from active duty in 1978, he served in the Reserves until 1983, then re-enlisted into active duty. Roger was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1996, after proudly serving his country for over 20 years of active duty and five years in the Reserves. Roger was united in marriage to Opal Jensen on Dec. 14, 1975. They have three daughters, Jennifer, Yvonne and Angela. Roger worked for Norland International in Lincoln as a mechanic for 20 years, traveling to many different countries before retiring in 2017. He moved back to Aurora to be closer to family. Roger was proud to have served his country in the Submarine Force with the elite Navy. He served our country during the Cold War and was stationed on the USS James Monroe, USS Hammerhead, USS Emory S. Land, USS Baltimore, and USS L.Y. Spear. Roger was involved in many organizations that reflected his passion: treasurer for Nebraska Base U.S. Submarine Veterans Incorporated, Lincoln VFW Post, Navy Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, DAV and the OVER House. Those left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Thomas of Central City, Yvonne (Chad) Carlson of Aurora and Angela (JT) Reisdorph of Cedar Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Kyle and Kaleb Thomas, Kyla, Caden, Jenna and Ryan Carlson, Sydney and Jackson Reisdorph; his wife, Opal Christensen of Aurora; his mother, Frances of Aurora; two sisters, Rose (Mark) Martin of Hayward, Calif., and Christine (Christopher) Garraway of Kentucky. He is also survived by an aunt Elvera (Dwight) Willcock of Stockham; aunt Jayme Grella; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; infant sister, Joan Teresa; and sister, Rachel Brummund.
