Description	:	Racheal Ellen Waln was born in Plutnum County, Indiana, May 10, 1850. She departed from this life July 16,1938 at her home in Dallas, Iowa. Her parents, John and Harriet Waln came to Iowa in a covered wagon when she was a baby. They located on a farm near Durham where she grew to womanhood. On May 26th 1869 she was united in marriage to Nye B. Hopkins and together they settle on a farm near Knoxville. Her parents, John and Harriet Waln came to Iowa in a covered wagon when she was a baby. They located on a farm near Durham where she grew to womanhood. On May 26th 1869 she was united in marriage to Nye B. Hopkins and together they settle on a farm near Knoxville. To this union were born four children: Zora wife of John Swanburg; Melvin, Bessie wife of Alton Damon and Eunice, wife of Blaine Stilwell. Of these Zora and Melvin have preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Hopkins was converted in early girlhood and united with the M.E. Church of local congregations, she has been a member for 25 years. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins have been privileged beyond most people in a long and happy married life of more than 69 years, during which time Mrs. Hopkins has been a kind and loving wife and mother. She leaves to mourn her departing, a loving husband (now nearing 91 years of age) a sister Hattie Waln of Knoxville,two children, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also a large number of friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, 1938, at the Dallas M.E. church, conducted by the Rev. Azel Smith. Interment was in Gosport cemetery.
