Description	:	Rachel Regier, 89, of Madrid, Neb., passed away at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Neb. on Monday morning, March 30, 2015, just four days short of her 90th birthday. Rachel was born in Bridgewater, S.D. on April 3, 1925. She was the youngest of seven children born to John A. and Rachel (Wipf) Mandel. Read More	Rachel Regier, 89, of Madrid, Neb., passed away at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Neb. on Monday morning, March 30, 2015, just four days short of her 90th birthday. Rachel was born in Bridgewater, S.D. on April 3, 1925. She was the youngest of seven children born to John A. and Rachel (Wipf) Mandel. Rachel attended Freeman Grade School and then Freeman Academy where she met her loving and faithful husband Pete Regier. They were married on April 15, 1945. Six children were born to this union. After their wedding, they moved to California where she cooked at a rest home. Later they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. and worked for a large dairy. Upon returning to the Madrid area they operated a dairy and farmed northwest of town. Rachel was head cook at Madrid and Wheatland schools for 13 years and served as a cook at King’s Inn in Grant. They continued to live on the farm until 2010 when their failing health required them to move to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. At the age of 18, upon her confession of faith, Rachel was baptized by Rev. Jacob B. Hofer and received into membership of the Hutterthal Mennonite church of Freeman, S.D. As an active member in the First Mennonite Church in Madrid, she was involved in the Sunday School, Women’s Mission Circle and performed in vocal musical groups. Later she was involved in the New Life Fellowship Church in Grant. Rachel was devoted to her strong faith and her family. She believed in working hard and was known for her excellence in baking, especially her delicious rolls and pies. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Pete; her parents; her sisters: Maurine and Ann; her brothers: Amos (died at age five), Valentine, John, and Soloman Mandel; step brother, Jack Mandel; step sister, Mary; brothers: Roland and Jake Hofer and two grandsons: Daniel Regier and Lynden Regier. She is survived by five sons: James (Joyce) of Inman, Kan. and their children: Jason, Janelle and Jaris (Sheila) Regier; Gayland (Marcia) of Beatrice, Neb. and their children: Paula (Brian) Heinz, Anne and John Regier; Phil (Cindy) of Madrid and their children: Phillip Regier, Shanel (J.D.) Adams and Lynette (John) Haddad; Ron (Lorie) of Madrid and their children: Adrian Regier, Rachelle (Chris) Fryzek, Chantel (Jason) Cave, Melissa (Chase) Sauder and Natalie (Brandon) Gunther; Don (Lisa) of Julesburg, Colo. and their children: Mary, Ben and Elizabeth Regier; one daughter, Carol Robertson (Lynn Winder, special friend) of Madrid and her children: Brent (Amy), Darin (Katie), Bradley (Julie), Renae (Tim Crothers, fiancé) and Greg (Mollie) Robertson; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Irene Ahlheim of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Kathryn Tieszen of Marian, S.D.; brother, Raymond Hofer and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, April 3, 2015 at Grant New Life Fellowship with Pastors John Goodell and Art Roth officiating. Burial was in the Madrid Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
